The database format that VisiQuick use (Paradox) is sensitive to the so-called oplocks feature (opportunistic file locking) that many servers have turned on by default. The database will become corrupt very quickly if the oplocks are not disabled permanently. Servers of the type Windows NT4/2000/XP, Novell and Linux all have oplocks. Only Windows 9x/ME does not have oplocks when used as a server.
The clients (the workstations) do not have oplocks, although they can be told not to use oplocks with the server.
The best way to disable oplocks is by doing it on the server:
· Windows
· Novell
· Linux
